How to Fix Low FPS in Valorant

Valorant was designed to work well with low-end PCs. However, those with PCs that are practically ancient or business-focused laptops may be struggling to get a decent frame rate. Not only that, but competitive players may also want to squeeze every last drop out of their hardware to increase their performance.

There are two main ways to increase your FPS in Valorant. You can change your in-game settings and your PC settings. Before we begin, remember that the simplest, most hassle-free way to increase FPS is to upgrade your PC. However, that can be expensive, and it might be best for most people to follow our best settings for Valorant instead.

Valorant In-Game FPS Settings

Head to the ‘Video’ tab in your Valorant settings and select ‘Graphics Quality’. Once there, here are settings that should always be kept constant

  • VSync: Off
  • Vignette: Off
  • Material Quality: Low
  • Detail Quality: Low
  • UI Quality: Low
  • Anti Aliasing: Off
  • Enhanced Gun Skins Visuals: Off
  • Distortion: Off
  • Anisotropic Filtering: 1x

VSync restricts your FPS to 60. Anti Aliasing, while offering a lot of visual benefits, can end up blurring textures. This can lead to visibility issues. Even if your PC can run the game at a decent frame rate, the aforementioned FPS settings will still be optimal for visibility and allow you to perform better.

The ‘Texture Quality’ setting is mainly impacted by the dedicated VRAM on your GPU. Those with less than 4GB should opt for Low, while those that have it should use Medium. If you have at least 8GB of VRAM, you can crank the quality to high without any significant loss in FPS.

The biggest decision you need to make is about the ‘Shadows’. Those suffering from really low FPS (below 60 with regular stutters) will have no choice but to keep them off. Shadows are one of the most demanding elements of the game and will cause low FPS in Valorant. However, they also provide the benefit of being able to see enemies as they turn the corner in certain condition

As such, those who do manage to get playable FPS with the shadows set to on should keep this setting. This will provide in-game advantages, and help you defend as well as peek better.

Lastly, remember that all games in general run better on ‘Fullscreen’. However, there have been reports that ‘Windowed Fullscreen’ is the best setting for Valorant. It is best to test this out yourself as it may vary between computers.
